5K Training Update
This week has not been a very good training week. We successfully completed the required time and repeats for Sunday and separately on Tuesday. Now, I'm started to feel my allergies coming on (it's hard to believe with all the wintery weather we have been having) and this might present a problem. Fortunately, I have an appointment to see my allergy doctor next week and hopefully I'll be feeling back to my usual self and get back on track with this training!

Riding is so much easier...
It has been about a week and a half since Tom and I started training for the 5K in the 2008 LIVESTRONG Challenge. Let me tell you that my body just doesn't want to cooperate with this whole moving faster on my feet than walking.
We have moved to Stage 2 of the training plan - which theoretically will get us running 30 minutes (straight) in 10 weeks. I have to be honest though, it took us a week and a half to get to Stage 2...so I imagine that Stage 3 will start in 2 weeks instead and we'll be ready to run this 5K in oh, I don't know, how about September?
Seriously though, it's been fun - in a freaky way. I'm hangin' in there and Tom, well he is just plain ol' patient - being a former high school cross country and track type person.
I haven't given up my bike and have gotten out a few times during my week away from work - really am looking forward to riding to work again soon and not spending the $3.50+ for gas - BLAH.

New Challenge
Earlier this year Tom and I decided that we would skip out of this year's Livestrong Challenge. The other evening, after our first "run" in a few years, he suggested that maybe we volunteer during the event. After checking out the website, there was no information available for Volunteering, but the 5K caught my eye. Since my diagnosis in April 2004 I focused a lot on riding my bike and I love it, but doing this 5K would truly be a challenge, physically and mentally, and in the end it would be such a huge accomplishment. This year's Challenge is on June 29 and we will be training pretty regularly until then. After the event I hope to continue running in addition to riding my bike and maybe, just maybe, sign up to do a DUATHLON next Spring. We'll see though, that's almost crazy talk!

Wednesday Play Day
Tom and I both took the day off from work today to go out and play and do something we don't usually do...go to the ZOO! It's been quite a while since we last went to the Oregon Zoo and it was fun. We parked it at the Expo Center Transit Center and took Max to the zoo. After spending a couple of hours walking around and trying to stay a step or two ahead of the homeschooling groups, we made our way back to downtown PDX and had lunch at Qdoba Mexican Grill http://www.qdoba.com/ mostly because Tom had received a certificate for a free entree - he did a cycling related survey at his office - the portions were huge! Enjoy the photos...
