Pinot Pedal 2008

Today was the 2nd Pinot Pedal, which was a benefit for the Sauvie Island Bridge Relocation which will be moved to Flanders and span I-405. A lot of information has been going around on bikeportland.org

This year's route was just okay...as much as I love to be on my bike, I don't necessarily enjoy trying to get across 4 lanes of traffic or climbing a steady climb that seemed to last forever and backtracking. Oh well, it was for a good cause and we had a really great lunch provided by a local caterer and a special blend of red wine available for those who participated.

We park at Tom's office across the street from the Residence Inn...here I am trying to close up my rear pocket

Who doesn't love waiting for a train to pass by?

WEEKEND "AWAY"

Our big weekend this week was a concert at the Oregon Symphony (Mahler's Symphony No. 9) and the Pinot Pedal this morning that started at Urban Wineworks.

Here are a couple of photos of our Saturday evening.

Okay, so this whole 5K training became really interesting yesterday, to me anyway. We went out and did our intervals and I grabbed my Running for Women book to check out the training chart and somehow my eyes were not working the day I looked at the current training stage that we have been doing. We were supposed to be running 5 min and walking 2 which I thought was much more reasonable. I am going to blame this on Chemo Brain. I can still claim that it's only been less than 3 years since I ended chemo.

So, I feel like moving onward because really, walking 7 minutes after running 5 was a bit much and I need to feel like I'm doing something more so, 7 minutes of running and 3 minutes of walking. Now that makes sense.

I don't know...my brain is weird.

Sunday, April 20...blah.

I'm waiting for Tom to finish mowing so he can help me with my new mtn bike pedals for my mtn bike...I'm pretty excited that I have new pedals for that bike...AND shoes...might have to run an errand before heading to the track for our daily torture around the track!

Crazy Weather + Training = no fun

I didn't want to get out of bed this morning. It was windy when I made a trip to the toilet at 5:30 and it's windy now as I write this.

One of the first things Tom asks is

"Would you be up for a cold ride this morning?"

My response "NO!"

We have spent the last month training for the 5K in the windy, cold rain...as much as I would like to be out on my bike, I have to admit that I am a wimp at this point. No desire to ride when I'm already feeling cold...maybe later when I start to feel stir-crazy.

Today is a rest day from training which is good because I have decided that I do not enjoy running on the track at the middle school...it's softer than running on pavement and that is what I am used to. Tomorrow we run again, but it will be at the track with Mary who joined me on Thursday to "suffer" with me, she is a trooper! Running on the track occasionally will be fine, it is convenient and that way I will get an idea of distance to go along with time.

Until tomorrow I will enjoy my rest day!

A 5K is how far???

Okay, so this 5K training is going SLOW, but I've got me some time yet. Things are going well now that I'm not suffering so much from my allergies. I also have decided that the plan in the book is good, but really...5 minutes of running and 7 minutes of walking?! A total of 4 times?! I can handle the running part, but the walking...it is almost an eternity! Honestly, walking is quite boring for me - whereas running I'm constantly thinking about how much my legs are starting to hurt and OMG, I've tied my left shoe too tight yet again! You would think that I would figure that one out.

It's been a month since we started training and there's lots of time to get thru the rest of the training plan so I can get to 30 minutes of running...which would be about right to run 3.1 miles.

Pretty soon I'll be a running fool or a fool for running, one of the two.

I love running?

Got out this week to resume my 5K training. We did three intervals Wednesday evening and 4 yesterday. I think I'm feeling well enough to try moving to the next stage of the training...5 minutes of running and 7 minutes of walking. I would like to get back on track this Sunday and get back to the regular schedule of Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday training days.

Tomorrow looks to be a nice day so far, maybe get a ride in too...WOO HOO!
