Almost One Month Later

2011 Cycle Oregon Weekend Ride
It has been 4 weeks since Tom's accident (in terms of weeks and not the date). He was admitted to the hospital, had surgery 5 days later and was released after a total of 9 days in the hospital. He has been home almost 3 weeks and has settled into a routine of convalescing.

On April 30th, he was back at the Rebound office to get his stitches out and have a visit with Dr. Kahn...all was well, except there was some concern about his swelled up leg. The doc decided that he should get a ultrasound to make sure that there wasn't a blood clot. That bought us some extra time at Southwest and a trip to Imaging! Some Fun! Good news is that his leg is just plump and there are no blood clots.

We have had meals delivered and that is one less thing that I have had to think about the past couple of weeks. Our neighbor came over to let us know that he would mow our lawn once a week until Tom is able to do it again - what a great neighbor! The one big thing that needs to be done is the field. It is getting BAD. So, maybe sooner than later one of the guys from work will bring by their BIG mower and get that taken care of for us. Once the first mowing has been done, it's easy enough for us to keep on top it it. Tom goes back to the doctor the 29th and will have X-Rays taken and another visit with Dr. K. Hoping that he will be able to switch to using a cane or crutches and we can put the walker in storage!

Other than that - life is GOOD. There are good days and days that could be better, but each day he feels better and does a little extra something around the house to see what he can do without too much trouble. Most evenings we have been running errands or doing tasks, which is good because it gives Tom an opportunity to be away from the house for a little while and actually interact with other people.

Now that I have become the doer of most things, this girl is a little weary. In addition to all that I have had to think about and/or do for Tom, I get to have a 2nd MRI on May 15. I had my follow-up appointment with my neurosurgeon on the 30th for my MRI that was done earlier in April. Dr. Rokosz told me that scan looked good where I had the tumor, but the radiologist seemed to think that there was something in the vicinity of my pituitary. Oh that's just fine. Really, I don't have enough to be concerned about...let's pile more stuff on!

Besides EVERYTHING that has been our life these past few weeks, we have been blessed with really great friends and feel loved.

GOD IS GOOD!

2 Corinthians 4:16-19

Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not see; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

  1. The perfect verse! Wow, I love how God speaks to us,comforts us, and encourages us through His word.
I'm glad Tom is on the mend and at least getting around a bit. What a huge blessing you are to him and taking care of him. I love how God blesses us with just the right spouse.
I will keep praying for Tom's healing, and for you. I hope your next MRI shows nothing. :) Hang in there, and thank you for sharing your life and faith.
